How does the RDS-EM work?
Advice on research design is also offered FREE to those applying to peer-reviewed funding programmes in applied health and social care research. Priority is given to those applying to NIHR and nationally competitive funding streams, but where capacity allows other design and funding enquiries will be supported.
Support is managed by an advice coordinator, it may be one-off or on-going, and may cover any aspect of research design, or the funding application process. Those wishing to seek advice please contact the appropriate base or fill out our enquiry form:

- Advice and support is best provided face-to-face. RDS-EM researchers will be very happy to meet with you at a convenient time and place to discuss your research and, where required, offer on-going support to help you to finalise your grant application.
- Where it is mutually beneficial and agreeable, it may be appropriate for the future involvement of RDS-EM staff to be costed into grant proposals under the rules of Full Economic Costing. There is, however, no obligation for users of the RDS-EM service or RDS-EM staff to enter into arrangements of this kind.
- At times the RDS-EM team will also advise on involving other collaborators, for example, patients, other clinicians or other methodologists.
When should I contact the RDS-EM?
It is preferable to contact the RDS-EM at an early stage to discuss your ideas, although you may contact us at any stage as you develop your research proposal.
