Would your organisation like a researcher to work with you on a local project?

The SDO Network has set up four Academic Placement Fellowship pilots in partnership with the Economic Social Research Council (ESRC). The placement schemes supports senior to mid level academics to spend time within a partner NHS organisation for between six to twelve months to undertake relevant health services research and develop the research skills of partner staff The ESRC and the NIHR Service Delivery and Organisation Programme (SDO) are now inviting NHS organisations to submit applications to host an academic fellow to:

• undertake a short and relevant health services research project
  
• carry out research that contributes to the understanding of how to effectively organise and deliver health services
  
• share the learning from the research across the organisation and the wider NHS
  
• develop and leave a legacy of health service research literacy and engagement within the host organisation

East Midlands Mental Health Research Network in partnership with South Yorkshire CLRN  have produced a leaflet for mental health professionals outlining how the MHRN can help you get involved in research. There is also an opportunity for clinicians interested in being involved in research studies to sign up to the Mental Health Research Network Register.

The report provides a snapshot of the NIHR's achievements throughout 2009/10 and demonstrates that research really is the foundation stone of a strong, efficient, cost-effective health system that works for patients, health-care professionals, industry and policy-makers.
