Learning objectives
- Understand the ethos and value of public involvement and what it brings to health and social care research
- Understand the challenges of public involvement
- Know the importance of offering incentives, investing in the research team, and the practical commitment expected. Equally important will be learning the implications of not acting on these three issues
- Understand the difference between a lay researcher’s support needs and a professional researcher’s support needs
- Learn ways of incorporating user input to research activity at all stages of the research process
- Be able to explore roles and responsibilities of the research team
